Banish Mold from Carpet

If you have carpets in your home, you probably know that their upkeep can sometimes be challenging, and you might run into issues you are unprepared for. We have seen them all at Elite Carpet Cleaning and Repair. Mold is likely to be one of your biggest enemies. Its strength lies in its ability to spread bacteria and give off unpleasant odors without being readily seen. It will settle into the padding of the carpet well before you become aware of it. So instead of the hassle of treating it, the best thing to do is to prevent it from having a chance to establish.

Temperature Control

If your carpeted area's temperatures are averaging between 80° F and 86° F, they are in the hot spot for mold activity. Keeping the areas cool with air conditioning and fans will go a long way to prevent the mold from forming.

Know Your Carpet's Materials

The thing about mold is that it much prefers natural material over synthetic material. So, something made from nylon, acrylic, or polyester is going to be much more resistant than a carpet made with jute, hemp, or seagrass, for example. Carpets made from synthetic materials also tend to be a little less expensive than natural rugs, so on top of keeping your mold issue at bay, it can even help you save a few bucks.

Humidity Management

Mold will thrive with humidity, so your best defense against this is going to be humidity management. By keeping moisture levels low, you will lower the chances of mold developing. This can be especially difficult if your carpets are in high-humidity areas like a basement. Having a nearby window open is a good start, but if that is not feasible, there is always the option of using portable dehumidifiers in areas of high humidity.

Keep it Clean

This might sound like a no-brainer but keeping your carpet clean is likely the simplest thing you can do to prevent mold buildup. Dirty shoes are a big contributor to this, so regular vacuuming and occasional cleaning of the carpet is a good habit to establish.

We hope that you have not run into this mold issue quite yet, or at least hope that it is not too late for you to do something about it. But if that is the case, feel free to give us a call at Elite Carpet Cleaning and Repair and we will do our best to get your carpets back to their beautiful stature and give you one less thing to worry about.
