Signs That It Is Time to Refinish Your Hardwood Floors

Hardwood flooring is a classic choice for many. They have been in style for seemingly forever. They can add a nice rustic element to your home or a refined upscale look, depending on what kind of wood and stain you opt for. But regardless of style, one thing that all hardwood floors have in common is the need to be refinished. The window in between needed refinishing can vary depending on your household traffic, so here are a few signs that help you determine if it is time for one or not.

Water Damage

Water is one of the biggest enemies to beautiful hardwood flooring. If you have had a leak or Fido’s water dish has left its mark on your floors, they likely need to be refinished. Water damage can present itself in several ways including, faded stains, warping, and buckling.

Scratches

Scratches are nearly impossible to avoid altogether. Light scratches are even a desirable look for some that want a cozier lived-in look. Some small scratches are merely surface level, only affecting the stain. These can be removed with a new stain. On the other hand, deep scratches cannot be simply covered over. For deep extensive scratches, sanding and refinishing is required.

General Wear

High traffic areas will also wear faster than other areas. Places like the doorway and hallway may appear dull and faded faster than the rest of your floor does. These areas can become so worn that it begins to splinter the wood planks. Not only can this be unsightly, but it can also lead to injury.

A refinishing should last on your floors for a good number of years, but if you have started to notice any of these tell-tale signs of age, give Elite Carpet Cleaning and Restoration a call. We professionally clean and refinish hardwood floors to give them a new life.
