Baking Soda

Baking soda is likely an item you already have in your pantry or fridge. Baking soda is often listed in many home cleaning remedies, and it is not difficult to see why. Baking soda is a natural deodorizer. If you have a fresh spill or pet accident, you can sprinkle baking soda over the area to soak up wetness and neutralize odors. Leave the powder for a few hours or overnight, and then simply vacuum it up afterwards. You can freshen up your carpet smell even if you have not had any recent accidents simply by dusting baking soda over top every once in a while before you vacuum.

Vinegar

Another popular name in the green cleaning circle is white vinegar. You may already use a vinegar solution for hard water stains on faucets, but vinegar can also be applied to stains on your carpet. Because of its acidic nature, vinegar is quite effective in lifting stains. Once you have applied white vinegar to a spot, give it a little scrub. It will not take long for you to notice the stain fading. Follow up with a baking soda application if desired.

Club Soda

Have you ever spilled on your shirt at a restaurant, only to be handed some club soda and a napkin? This is because the carbonation in club soda actually aids in loosening up stains from fibers in clothing. Do you know what other kinds of fibers this helps fight stains with? That is right, carpet. The same way you would gently work the stain out of your shirt can be applied to stains on carpet. Dab the spot with a cloth while periodically adding club soda until you see the stain disappearing.
